The client is an eminent professor of history at a major US university. His brief was to produce a structure to house his extensive collection of history source material and archives and to provide a research work area. The site created special problems - being closely related to major listed buildings in a typical English parkland setting. The solution was to build the library partially underground - to appear on completion as a simple planted mound in a landscape setting.
