31 MR is a remodelling of a family dwelling in Richmond upon Thames for a landscape architect and a CEO of a thriving charity that facilitates urban orchards . The brief called for an increase in both family living areas and sleeping accommodation. For WR-AP this commission was not only about increasing the size and amount of accommodation but more importantly about providing the family with innovative and integrated storage solutions to deal with the demands of a growing household. Given the clients passion for nature the primary finishes internally are timber, with structural elements exposed to showcase the characteristics of the material. The remodelling of the ground floor accommodation incorporates a new open plan family/kitchen area and allows for a better visual connection to the garden area. The commission received planning consent in mid 2018 via two routes. Permitted development rights were secured for the loft space conversion and full planning consent was granted for the ground floor accommodation.
