First commissioned for his Studio space on the edge of the City of London - the artist Glenn Brown has acquired a former 19th C industrial workshop for conversion into an Art Gallery. wcjw have been appointed to convert and extend the building in Marylebone Lane area of Westminster – to provide exhibition space, a flexible studio and office space and staff facilities. Located in the Harley Street Conservation Area, with an established office use, planning permission was obtained for change of use to an art gallery with free access for the public. A tight urban site, this unusual 5 storey building has been stripped back to its four enclosing walls and re-built internally. The existing mansard roof is replaced with a complete new storey at roof level, raised to facilitate more gallery space below, including the creation of a double height exhibition space, and conversion of an extensive basement vault under the road into a further gallery.  Completely renovated and fully serviced, the building is served by new staircase and lift.  A rejuvenated exterior and new entrance, the interior is designed to complement the artist’s work.
