SCHEME DESIGN FOR A NEW HOUSE Set on an existing plot within a ribbon development of large inter-war houses, the form of this substantial 4 storey family home responds to planning and site constraints in maximising the interior volume. The period style of neighbouring property is re-interpreted to produce a modern light filled family home with strong connections to the garden and rural views at front and rear. A rich variety of spaces are envisaged including: - 3.6m high living space of classic proportion overlooking the garden. Clerestory windows promote passive solar principles. - family living/ dining kitchen with two walls of glass opening out to a raised terrace and southwest facing garden. - principal bedroom suite within its own special character, an open roof volume, top lit in the dressing area. - lofty flexible bedroom/ studio space with access to a roof terrace at mezzanine level, linking first and second floors. - a galleried staircase, opens to an atrium space above, bringing sun and natural light down to north facing spaces. - flexible basement living spaces set around an open courtyard enclosed by retaining walls that form primary foundations.
