Sheen Park is a modern light-filled family home, created from the transformation and extension of a dilapidated 1940s semi-detached property. It is a house for display and curiosity, containing objects created by the clients, including professionally, with one of them a product designer. The centerpiece of the whole house and landscaping project is an open plan kitchen, living and dining-room which includes a 7m clear span timber-frame extension. The end facade is clad externally with cedar battens contrasting with the sides and roof, wrapped in grey standing-seam metal. The project brief sought a celebration of structure and thus exposed and paired timber A-frames, pinned with metal apex plates, create a rhythm that envelopes the space, oversailing in dramatic fashion from one side to the other. These are bookended with exposed brick, from the painted walls of the original house to the new header brick wall at the garden end.
