New Build
Wilson Mason LLP , Upland House, Spring Lane , Samlesbury , PRESTON , Lancashire , PR5 0UX , United Kingdom
Wilson Mason was commissioned to develop a new restaurant and welfare building for the BAE Systems Samlesbury site. The building provides a 300 seat restaurant for the site, capable of delivering in excess over 1000 meals a day. The building also incorporates a dentist and medical centre for BAE Systems employees. The use of a timber frame, along with cedar cladding and roofing ensures low levels of embodied carbon. The selection of stone and stainless steel cladding and building envelope materials ensures building longevity whilst minimising maintenance. This sustainable building utilises its curvilinear form and shallow plan depth to promote natural ventilation and enhance views across the landscape. The curves also diminish the apparent length of the building. The roof shape together with the use of high level north light glazing ensures the interior maximises daylight benefits whilst limiting solar gain.
