Major restructuring through multiple phases of the existing eleven storey John Lewis flagship store, which continued trading throughout the building works. Three new entrances were created at street level and the two existing external light wells converted into atria, with new light-weight inflated EFTE roofs. Twenty-four new escalators were installed, largely within the atrium space and the existing shop floor escalators removed, with the resultant redundant escalator wells infilled to increase usable floor sales space. The project involved the reorganisation of retail departments, shopfitting and the creation of support areas across entire building, with some selected departmental refurbishment, including a new fifth floor Customer Services department. A new Food Hall was introduced at Basement level together with a new Brasserie and “Place to Eat”.
