Alteration to existing property
Eggleston Hall , Eggleston , BARNARD CASTLE , County Durham , DL12 0AG
An extension to form a new kitchen opening onto a terraced garden was required. The property was a 1960s brick built modern house and the clients wanted to utilise some existing stone balustrading from an earlier, now demolished, property. In addition the clients wanted to replace some fibreglass replica columns with new stone columns and pilasters around new sliding doors opening into the kitchen. A symmetrical arrangement was proposed with a long roof light following the long axis of the room with a sliding pocket door opening into the adjacent dining room and a low Georgian style window overlooking the gardens beyond. A small larder was also required to be naturally cooled. The overall brief was to create a light airy space for modern day living.
