A range of run down farm buildings arranged around a central courtyard was converted into a open development of four individual houses. The brief required the retention of the overall character of the building whilst providing contemporary living space within. Selection of materials and practical design has given each property its own individual character. New services were required to the site while maintaining access at all times to the existing nearby farmhouse. The thermal efficiency of the external envelope was improved dramatically. The courtyard was opened up and planted with slow growing trees to screen overlooking windows.
