Listed Building - Grade II
Eggleston Hall , Eggleston , BARNARD CASTLE , County Durham , DL12 0AG
A dilapidated listed farm building was converted into two single storey houses set around an internal courtyard. The original building featured a melange of brick and stone materials in a variety of typologies and finishes. Traditional materials were re-used and contrasted with new work using clean modern finishes wherever possible. With its agricultural origins, much of the brickwork had to be rebuilt from the ground upwards, and where the local ironstone had deteriorated, local suppliers have fashioned new stone detailing. New joinery matches original patters, but with greatly improved thermal standards. Internally, each house has a large open plan kitchen and sitting room with exposed beams with lowered ceilings to bedrooms and bathrooms.
