White Ink Architects Limited , 4th Floor , 21 Talbot Street , BELFAST , County Antrim , BT1 2LD , United Kingdom
Cardiff's new Maldron Hotel is a 12-storey 3* hotel comprising 216 hotel rooms, a business suite with 8 meeting rooms, ancillary office spaces and a ground floor retail unit located on a prominent City Centre site. The project was procured via a Design and Build route and White Ink Architects were appointed from inception to completion. The challenging site is a confined triangular island, located in the historic core of the city - bounded by two arterial vehicular routes whilst the main south-bound Network Rail line encloses the remaining site edge. The hotel is a welcome addition to the Cardiff skyline. The palette of high-quality materials of stone, green terracotta tiles and coloured glass panels sit comfortably with both the historic buildings of Cardiff’s Conservation Area and the more contemporary architecture of the near-by St David’s development.
