We are developing the masterplan for the mixed use redevelopment of a key site in central Ipswich of some 35,000sqm. Phase 1 includes the regeneration of a neglected urban space outside the popular New Wolsey Theatre just to the west of the main city centre. Previously, the space was part of the former council/city hall site, a 1960’s development are which was partly demolished in 2014. Our design, in conjunction with local landscape practice AREA, includes the rationalization of the current levels, resulting in improved circulation, distinctive and robust materials and also provides a new timber framed pavilion to contain a café/bar to complement the current theatre activities.
