New Build
This project is located adjacent to Talgarth Road in London SW14 and raised considerable challenges in delivering a mixed tenure residential development on a site constrained by its busy urban context and site topography. The final scheme is configured to resolve the issues generated by the linear site footprint and the A4 dual carriageway which defines the site’s Southern edge. The properties to the North also presented a significant constraint due to overshadowing, day lighting, and privacy issues. The proposed section was developed to resolve these constraints integrating circulation, section form, shading, and ventilation issues. The three storey mono pitched form comprises single storey residential units at ground floor with two storey duplex units over. These duplex units maximize space by fully utilizing the roof volume and take reference from Frank Wheelers landmark 1890’s artist studios nearby. They also include a ventilation flue –evident externally which houses the ventilation and heat recovery system. The final massing expresses the linear form with cutaways to reveal the circulation spaces and vertical layering. Engineering facing brickwork through surface and colour reinforces this form. Large openings to the upper two floors define the two storey duplex units, articulate the layering hierarchy, and introduce shading and privacy screens to define view and outlook.
