The new Crossrail station is part of a wider redevelopment of Paddington. The station will provide a major new gateway for London, serving local, national and international passengers. Major changes from the Crossrail 1 Hybrid Bill defined works were required to deliver the design proposal. The works include: new stations serving Crossrail and London Underground, a new entrance to the station linking with major commercial developments, commercial development above one of the new stations, a new taxi facility for BAA that is designed to address the needs of international travellers via Heathrow and major new public realm above the Crossrail Station To create a world-class pedestrian space along the Network Rail buildings, the proposal considers design issues of heritage and conservation, provision of onward transport facilities, way-finding and orientation and servicing and security.
