Extension to Studio at the Grade 2 listed Barn Theatre providing more flexible dramatic space with improved disabled access. A key element was the assessment of the 'heritage assets' and the conflict between from the configuration of the historic frame and a layout for a modern theatre studio space. Posts were removed to allow an extension to provide a flexible space. After analysis and research, the frame was assessed to be secondary to the importance of the cultural asset of this Theatre in the history of Welwyn Garden City. The exterior is low-key and reused existing cladding to the flank wall to reduce the effect of the alterations.
