Onslow Square The project was for the complete internal refurbishment of a top floor apartment in a Listed Building in Kensington to create a luxuriously masculine pied-a-terre. The apartment occupies the top storey (4th floor) on the north side of Onslow Square. It was created as part of the conversion of the original larger properties on On slow Square into a number of self-contained flats in the mid 1950’s. The terrace is a Grade II listed building and falls within the Thurloe Estate and Smith’s Charity Conservation Area. Originally built as large town houses, these properties have since been significantly altered when converting them into flats. The only visible original elements would appear to the external facades. The proposal included the following changes: • Combining the study/smallest bedroom and airing cupboard with the kitchen space to create a larger kitchen dining area. • moving the corridor wall on the reception side into the room to give some space back to the entrance and providing some much needed storage. • Providing matching double glass doors into the reception room and kitchen in hardwood frames glass doors to allow light into the entrance area and corridor. The reception doors also include matching sidelights. • Replacing the ceilings generally to level them and in the process gain back some much needed room height where possible. • Shorten the corridor by placing the doors to bedroom closer to the front and installing a new guest WC to allow the rest of the corridor to be given over to the en-suite for the master bedroom. • Losing the third bedroom to create dressing room for the master bedroom suite. Reconfiguring the second bedroom and en-suite. • Introduce timber flooring generally and stone/ceramic flooring to the bathrooms and kitchen; all on an acoustic underlay system.
