Boathouse 4 is a naval boathouse in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, built during the lead-up to war in the 1930s. Following a successful HLF bid, Walters & Cohen has restored the unique and much loved industrial shed into a multi-purpose facility that houses a boatbuilding academy, exhibition space and restaurant, making it a pleasant destination for visitors and a space for upholding and learning important skills that would otherwise be lost. Our design reuses the existing building, whose prominent location makes it an important gateway to the dockyard. The restaurant, on a new mezzanine level, overlooks the exhibition area and provides views to Gosport, making the most of the site and location.
