The Client was looking to expand the scope of the care offered at their existing 59 bedroom Nursing Home facility at the site, and the Practice was commissioned to design a new 43 bedroom Dementia Care Unit, to cater for the identified need within the County of Cambridgeshire. The Local Authority were consulted early in the design process, and were keen for the new building to reflect the character of the existing residential street scene onto which it would face. A double pitched main roof was therefore employed to achieve the correct visual scale with the inherently deep plan form, and the facade articulated to resemble a collection of terraced houses. Planning approval was granted in 2008, and enacted in 2011.
