Four new build townhouses and six new build apartments on a disused car park in Anerley, South London. Following our client’s successful bid for the land we established a set of design principles that guided the outline scheme. Reviewing the surrounding urban grain and density, we have proposed to celebrate the gable, reinforce the streetscape and strengthen the principal corner of the site. Each dwelling is rotated to provide more privacy to overlooking windows and to express a clearer and more dynamic form which distinguishes itself from the 1950/60’s terraced and semi-detached houses that characterise the area. A series of design parameters in relation to parking, density, overlooking and amenity are key factors in shaping the design. The neighbouring locally listed town hall is referenced in the textures and tones of our proposals.
