New Custody Suite and Regional Police Station with a 7,500m² floor area and refurbishment of the existing 3,000m² Police Station building. The custody suite includes 24 cells, charging area and related facilities designed to comply with the applicable Home Office standards. The contemporary style of architecture is designed to acknowledge the existing building and provide a meaningful piece of architecture which makes a positive contribution to the townscape. The red brickwork of the existing building has been re-interpreted in the new building by the use of red terracotta cladding. Orientation of the proposed Custody Suite is appropriate for the passively ventilated building. The 18.0m wide floorplan responds to the planning of the Custody Suite at ground level and provides a suitable model for cross-ventilation of the building. The modern design was commended by CABE during a rigorous architectural review and was warmly welcomed by the Planning Authority.
