£3m to £4.99M
Listed Building - Grade II*, New Build
Mottynsden Farm , Spring Lane , Burwash , East Sussex , TN19 7HX , United Kingdom
This £4million new-build project was undertaken with The Manser Practice and completed in 2008. The school acquired the adjacent church site and this building is part of a long term development plan which will eventually link the church and the vicarage to the existing school buildings under one roof. Set between mature plane trees and the Grade 2* listed William Butterfield church, the new music school is a modern two storey building, flat roofed to maintain a low profile and with a glazed atrium running the length of the church to provide a full but delicate connection between the two buildings. It has an acoustically attenuated system of passive ventilation throughout to avoid the use of air conditioning. The design of the full development plan for this sensitive and tight urban site was fully supported from the outset by the local planning department and English Heritage.
