Alteration to existing property, New Build
The professional clients required a larger connected kitchen, dining and event/bar space with viewing area to meet their modern living needs, and to host guests at social family events in their home. We designed and specified a contemporary, bright and airy extension that takes design cues from the existing house, and enhances it with sliding concealed double doors to the lounge, mono-pitch roof and ceiling for a lofty feeling inside and feature grey glazing and brickwork. By optimising glazing to the north-west facing extension, the couple benefits from generous light and solar heat gain, in turn reducing lighting and heating bills. The new functional kitchen seamlessly transitions into the dining room and bar area, which in turn flows into the lounge and garden. The new space has garden views through a feature picture window incorporating seating, and a bi-fold door that connects the cool silver monochrome interior with the vibrant exotic planted garden to provide a sense of being outdoors. Through careful orchestration of layout, we created a unified space with distinctly separate zones where people can mingle in a public or semi-private setting as required. All of these elements culminate in an event space which is the heart of the home, and which promotes wellbeing. A virtual building model allowed the client to visualise the design and make an informed decision on every key part of the design and specification to achieve exactly what they wanted. This comprehensive level of drawn and modelled communication permitted the client to extract maximum value for their budget. The detailed model and drawings also allows contractors to tender more accurately for the project providing the client with further value.
