This large 1920s detached house is situated on the outskirts of Woldingham in the Surrey Green Belt. The house had undergone a series of unsympathetic alterations which had resulted in a confused internal layout and living spaces which were detached from the large rear garden. We were asked by the client to modernise the appearance of the house and reorganise the accommodation to connect better with the garden and views to the hillside beyond. At the same time they wanted to upgrade the existing building fabric to modern standards of insulation. Our design proposed a new kitchen/dining/living space at lower ground floor which opened directly onto the garden, re-planning the interior ground floor, and remodelling and insulating the exterior elevations.
