Brent
Nestled in the Mapesbury Conservation area in Brent, this flat in a converted Victorian House underwent a full refurbishment and loft conversion which doubled its useable area and improved the environmental performance of the new house. The existing flat was a modest two-bedroom flat conversion in the front half of the house. Our challenge was to find the best use for the large loft to create a generous 3-bedroom home. The design resolves the loft conversion in a innovative manner by bringing the living spaces into the loft in a magnificent split-level space. This approach uses the grandeur of the existing roof to great effect to create well-lit sustainable for modern living. For our client everything had to have its place and it all needed to be hidden behind the exquisite birch ply joinery. To that end we produced a highly designed furniture solution. To achieve this outcome on site within the hipped roof we worked very closely with the joiner to interrogate the existing conditions space developing all the fabrication information for the project. The blackened steel finish was developed with the blacksmith to create a lively textured accent to the home.
