We were appointed by the clients to redevelop the existing agricultural Hay / Grain stores and Dutch Barns into an exclusive residential development, while maintaining the character and charm of the existing buildings. The redevelopment of the site transformed five under-utilised barn structures into nine residential dwellings. The strategy for the site included a combination of obtaining a Certificate of Lawfulness under the Class Q Permitted Development rights and applying for full planning permission. When converting the existing barns, we ensured that some of the key architectural features were preserved, and where possible, enhanced; the exposed steel columns, metal roofing, large agricultural openings and double height spaces are some of these features. We introduced new materials into the building such as the light-coloured timber cladding and facing blockwork that compliments the existing steelwork and generous glazed apertures.
