In Leyton, Unknown Works bookended a semi-detached, brick-infill terrace house with striking yellow extensions, uplifting the suburban streetscape and ground floor layout with Cross-Laminated Timber, a sustainable building technology. The clients required space for their musical pursuits, young family, and social life, hoping to reconnect the cramped, dark ground floor with the upper floors and large leafy garden. CLT panels create a warm interior complimented by stainless steel and white-tinted polished concrete. The extension features an open plan kitchen and dining space with inbuilt seating, reading nooks, and an overhead ceiling grid, which fills the space with ambient light.
