Woking
New Build
Rejuvenation of an inherited planning consent for a housing scheme in Woking's Hoe Valley involving a complete redesign to create contemporary, added value homes and to achieve compliance with both Lifetime Homes and code level 4 for the Code for Sustainable Homes. Set within the vicinity of a flood plain and landscaped water meadows, the design of the housing has kept in keeping with traditional river houses and barns, with the roofscape forming an intrinsic part of each dwelling. The new roof not only reduces the height of the houses, but allows the full footprint of the roof space to be used as habitable accommodation, improving efficiencies by creating additional area and a further room to each house for the same construction cost. The roof orientation encourages lower energy usage by allowing the photovoltaic panels to face an optimal southerly direction rather than the east/ west orientation of the previous rejected scheme. Concurrent with the housing development, tp bennett is also undertaking the design of two community centres for use by the new residents.
