tp bennett?s concept for the redevelopment of the Guildhall Campus and the North Wing evolved from the desire to connect the building to the wider city and develop an open transparent image for the City of London. Central to the proposals are the enlargement of the North Wing and the remodelling and lowering of the adjacent piazza, to allow level access into the building and across the site. The scheme opens up the base of the main fa?ade to increase the sense of accessibility and the previously confusing dual entry points have been replaced by a single civic scaled glazed entrance with a reception space that now offers views to the north facade of the Guildhall. The refurbishment entailed stripping back the building to its structure, remodelling the upper floors and widening the south fa?ade. The new ventilated and fully glazed south fa?ade incorporates the main passenger lifts and provides excellent views of the Guildhall from all floors across a newly formed internal landscaped courtyard. Internally the refurbishment provides 135,000 sq ft of modern office accommodation, a meeting suite, Chamberlains Court, a training suite, plus a staff restaurant and gym to serve the campus.
