As one of Anchor’s first private Extra Care schemes in Southern England, Austin Place needed to set a benchmark for quality in what is a very competitive market. Through careful analysis of the site as well as close working with the landscape consultants and the local authority tree officer, the Practice was able to develop a scheme that retained almost all of the mature trees on this heavily wooded site. The scheme provides 65 one and two-bedroom luxury apartments – all for sale - with a third-floor roof terrace, which gives views across the tops of the trees to the River Thames below. The welcoming entrance leads through to the landscaped gardens and café/delicatessen, encouraging residents and their friends to enjoy the south-facing terraces. A mixture of stone, brick and render was specified for the exterior of Austin Place in keeping with the surrounding buildings. Due to the very restricted site, the contractor chose to use a concrete frame enabling materials to be stored within the structure and allowing the fitting out to progress on all floors. * Finalist, Pinders Healthcare Design Awards 2017
