TKLs Architects were originally appointed to design a new science building as phase 1 of a rolling programme of works for Havant College. The design was envisaged to incorporate multi-function learning spaces and to exploit the latest technology to encourage the teaching of science. The brief was refined and expanded and sketch designs were submitted which included updated reception and administration facilities, expanded social spaces and refectory, and a refurbished science block. The new building was amended to a general teaching facility to be shared by the various faculties. Initial scheme designs were undertaken, but the project stalled, only to be resurrected as a new School of Business. The revised brief specified that the building should be designed so as to be able to be extended both horizontally and vertically in the future. The project was completed within 16 months of appointment, to ensure it complied with funding requirements. ‘Havant College appointed TKLS Architects to provide a full architectural service for a new School of Business.
