Constrained by the Clapham Conservation Area our objective with this project was to fill the dark unmodernised spaces with light and air to create a sense of space and comfort. A large vaulted operable roof light installed at the centre of the plan allows natural light to penetrate into each room and creates effective natural ventilation by allowing fresh air to be pulled through the windows at low level. The existing sitting, kitchen and utility rooms were all opened up creating a light-filled, open plan space, and the existing roof was converted into bedroom and bathroom spaces, maximising the potential of this Victorian terraced home in Clapham Old Town.
