Private residence, Cheam Village, Surrey A desire for increased floor space had to be balanced by respect for the Arts and Crafts features of this house, located in the Burton Estates area of Special Local Character. By adding a double-height, L-shaped extension, we have increased the internal area of the house by 65 percent. At the front, detailed brickwork, tiles and rendering exactly reproduce the period style. At the rear, the layout has been completely reconfigured to create an open-plan, light-filled family space. Carefully positioned windows and a cantilevered, natural zinc roof encourage the flow of light and air through the seasons.
