Honeydale Centre for Diverse Farming, The Cotswolds Honeydale Farm uses sustainable, diverse methods to manage its crops and livestock. This sensitivity to the environment had to be reflected in our plans for the new visitor centre, set in 100 acres across an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Inspired by local materials and architecture, four utilitarian buildings cluster around a courtyard, providing shelter from the wind and a place to work and gather. Their roofs are configured to break up the volume, and their proportions are balanced through the application of the Golden Ratio. These natural patterns are applied across the site in details like the larch cladding, which follows the Fibonacci sequence of the dancing bee. Viewed from across the valley, the site appears in harmony with its surroundings. Visited by thousands of UK farmers, it will inform new ways of working with the land.
