Alteration to existing property, New Build, Within a Conservation Area

Extension of a house in East London. This project for a typical London side infill kitchen extension with better access to the garden, was the first phase of a larger scheme to be completed in 2020 with a loft conversion. The design makes use of classical compositional principles such as hefty masonry piers and an entablature of a sort. A minor order over the bay window resists the temptation to hover and sits on a heavy base of concrete lintels, like a vitrine. Inside the exposed beam sits comfortably on an engaged column with a recessed capital. The spare detailing nonetheless includes varied textures of exposed masonry and steel, ply and MDF, rubber and paint in carefully chosen colours.
