Alteration to existing property, Within a Conservation Area
Timothy Smith & Jonathan Taylor LLP
Timothy Smith & Jonathan Taylor LLP , 29 Great James Street , LONDON , WC1N 3EY
We achieved planning permission for an ambitious and characterful scheme on a very tight site on Flask Walk in Hampstead, in the Flask Walk Conservation Area. The existing house was a run down ex-local authority terrace, and the new extension and renovation works were designed to restore and amplify the character of the original building while providing bright spaces for modern living. The local planning authority (Camden) complimented the design of the extension in their approval report. The ground floor has been designed with a panelled dining room and entrance hall, both with concealed storage; and a kitchen in the centre of the plan with views onto a small planted courtyard and down a wide staircase into the new sitting / garden room, which has large windows onto both the courtyard and the small garden at the rear. An expressive ceiling in the garden room helps to order the slightly unusual shape given by the plot boundaries and semi dome above the glazing looking onto the garden gathers light into the room and creates an expansive sense of space.
