Tim Ronalds Architects , 57 Kingsway Place , Sans Walk , LONDON , EC1R 0LY , United Kingdom
In 1896 the Regent Street Cinema, then part of the Regent Street Polytechnic, was the venue for the UK’s first ever public display of moving pictures by the Lumiere Brothers. Following its closure as a working cinema, the space has been used as a lecture theatre by the University of Westminster. The am of the project was to restore the historic fabric of the “Birthplace of British Cinema” and turn it into a multi-functional space, with the history of the Cinema, its use and its architectural heritage as a central theme.
