Within a Conservation Area
House, Berkhamsted The existing house was built in 1981 in the garden of an Edwardian property on a corner site within Berkhamsted’s Conservation Area. The property was in need of a significant upgrade, having hardly been altered since it was built and originally constructed from relatively poor quality materials. Apart from fabric items including heating, lighting and new windows, the new owners wanted to reconfigure the accommodation to create a modern family home. Additional floor area was created by converting the existing garage and constructing a small rear extension. The main change to the exterior has been the choice to render the existing brick walls, providing the opportunity to create a clean, contemporary look reflecting the renewal of the property as a whole.
