Frithsden Lane, Hertfordshire Our clients owned two of the three adjoining cottages, which had been combined into one dwelling (and in fact substantially rebuilt) within the last 30 years. The opportunity arose to buy the third cottage (which was listed Grade II) and incorporate it into the dwelling. Our brief was to link the buildings internally and create additional floorspace to provide a larger kitchen. The extension replaced a smaller existing extension constructed in 1972, which linked the cottage to an Edwardian outhouse. The new extension replicates the form of an existing outhouse and flank wall, and combines it with a contemporary hardwood framed glazed element under a zinc roof.
