The project included a wide range of repairs, alterations and improvements to the buildings which make up the estate, with a particular emphasis on improving facilities for visitors and extending educational facilities both for the general public and for residential students. Repairs to the timber frames of the Grade I listed House and Great Barn; a new oak and brick Loggia and toilets (which enhance the Tea Room facilities); improvements to the White Barn; conversion of Dixter Farm to create student living accommodation, educational spaces and offices. In line with the ethos of Great Dixter, sustainability was at the top of the agenda with a ground source heat pump, biomass boiler (shoehorned into one of the Grade II* Listed Oasts), photovoltaic cells and rainwater harvesting.
