New build pool house containing a gym, a pool table, a changing room and a living area. The building was positioned parallel to an existing outdoor swimming pool. Unfortunately this square orientation focused garden side elevation in the direction an oblique boundary hedge which cut across the view. To address this the corner of the building as opened up to orientate the viewer towards the longest view of the garden, which was on a diagonal axis. To enhance the diagonal view and avoid two framed views perpendicular to each other the building was designed without corner structure. The unsupported corner was supported by two steel beams which meet on the corner and which wad tied down to mass concrete walls. The strcuture had to be such that the corner deflection could only be a few millimetres to prevent the sliding doors, which meet on the corner, from sticking.
