New Build
Thomas de Cruz Architects & Designers
80-82 Chiswick High Road , Chiswick , LONDON , W4 1SY
Remodelling of 1960s detached house on the fringes of a village on the Surrey/Hampshire border. The proposal uses the basic footprint of the existing house except at the east end, where the existing single storey extension is demolished and rebuilt as a two storey extrusion of the building envelop. The principle changes are the removal of the existing double pitched roof and replacement with a single mono-pitched roof and the opening up of the rear wall, where most of the construction is punched out to create large areas of glazing giving expansive views over open countryside. Planning permission was granted for the substantial extension by using the volumes of existing outbuildings, which were demolished, to maximise the permissible size. Planning permission was later obtained for exactly the same design as a new build.
