A 19th century Grade Listed church, with a historic congregational identity. We were asked to undertake a full refurbishment and re-ordering scheme. Including substantial upgrading of the services and demolishing a modern organ loft, making way for a modern extension. This extension allows for an entrance foyer and improves connections; linking the sanctuary with the rear hall, whilst encompassing three meeting rooms that can be used concurrently. This structure was designed to have minimal visual impact on the existing context, but have maximum thermal efficiency and allow natural light to penetrate where possible. This project has been initiated by the community, for the community; the church members have been heavily involved in this project, aiming for a more substantial relationship with the wider community and providing the original design brief, with input into key design decisions.
