New Build
The Whitworth Co-Partnership LLP
18 Hatter Street , BURY ST. EDMUNDS , Suffolk , IP33 1NE , United Kingdom
Originally the site of a redundant farm that was of archaeological and ecological interest, it was overgrown and inaccessible with remains of a fire-damaged farmhouse on site. This dilapidated cottage was of historical value to the community and its surroundings, therefore, we renovated and extended the existing property to ensure it became part of the new development scheme. From the detailed design stage, the local community participated with the decisions, ensuring that this vernacular scheme became part of the wider community. Within this development scheme of ten houses, each building had its own material envelope, giving each house its own identity. These houses were built to The Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4, incorporating energy saving measures where possible. This included insulation that was in excess of the statutory requirements and a high level of draught proofing. Heated by high-efficiency air-source heat pumps, supplemented by solar thermal and photovoltaic panels. The properties were also fitted with heat recovery ventilation systems; with other systems such as water saving sanitary ware, recycling facilities and bicycle storage also put into place.
