New Build
The Manser Practice completed the award-winning 252-bedroom Park Inn hotel in 2009, providing both architectural and interior design services. A sleek black orthogonal building, the hotel sits adjacent to a new office, both of which are accessed via a new plaza created off Cheetham Hill Road. The site is adjacent to Manchesters Green Quarter, just to the north of the city centre, in the immediate vicinity of the Manchester Evening News arena and Victoria station. It is bounded by Cheetham Hill Road to the west, the River Irk to the east and has a 12m drop across the site from Cheetham Hill Road down to the river. In response to the existing site topography, the building has a basement beneath the plaza which accommodates a new swimming pool and spa at ground level as well as the kitchens and back of house areas. The successful continuity of the building across the topographically complex site has been achieved using a restricted pallet of materials and colours. The hotel is clad in highly reflective polished black ceramic granite, producing crisp clean lines and reflections which change throughout the day. At ground level the hotel is glazed at both front and back, creating views through the building to the residential Green Quarter and beyond, reducing the visual barriers of the building from street level. The interiors of the hotel, also by The Manser Practice, have been designed in a light and modern style in bright colours to match the Park Inn branding.
