New Build
Since 2007 The Manser Practice has been commissioned to carry out a number of projects at Chesterfield Royal Hospital. The new Ward block at Chesterfield Royal Hospital was completed on budget and ahead of programme in August 2010. It provides 96 new bed spaces to suppliment the 550 beds that were at full capacity, driving the requirement for additional bed space before winter 2010. The speed of the design and delivery process reflected this, with the design team appointed in November 2008 and work planned to finish on site in August 2010. The scheme provides 50% of the accommodation in 4-bed bays and 50% in single-occupancy rooms, including an isolation facility, whilst meeting the requirements of the Department of Health£s £Delivering Same-Sex accommodation£ programme. The ward rooms are supported by clinical areas, with a £hub£ of key facilities including clean and dirty utilities, treatment rooms, drug preparation and stores, located at the centre of the plan. Patient reception and staff areas are designed to provide high visibility and control over the facility. The 3-storey building is T-shaped in plan, with a part basement plant room utilising the slope of the site and solar collectors on the flat roof. The building is clad in ceramic tiles, with profiled louvres creating a podium to the basement. Working with ArtinSite, artwork was incorporated throughout the wards design.
