The design of the 2-bedroom house is a specific response to the needs of the client. The aim was to create a house that suited the lifestyle of an active retirement. The spatial ideas of the user were mixed: unfulfilled dreams of a 1960s bungalow and the experience of living in a 200 year old timber and clay house with the habit to burn wood to heat. These facts have been re-interpretated in a contemporary way. The deep garden plot of the old house offers the site for the bungalow. A series of small, highly introverted rooms group around a central, multifunctional space, alternating with glazed outward looking rooms. Positive experiences of inhabiting timber and clay constructions and the habit of burning wood to heat the building are re-interpretated in a contemporary and modern way.
