Listed Building - Grade II
team 51.5 architects. London / Wuppertal
1a Peacock Yard , Iliffe Street , LONDON , SE17 3LH
Until 2011, the listed block of flats from the 1900s has been used as a pharmacy on the ground and first floor for nearly 100 years. In 2012 a family of four decided to buy the completely derelict building in order to make their dream come true, to live and share a house with other musician friends. Therefore the whole building has been upgraded to current standards, including services, [electrics, heating, bathrooms & kitchens] and additional insulation, which results in a 50–60% reduction of heating demands. In order to make space for a communal garden next to the shared spaces [guest room, music studio and office] on the ground floor, a two storey out house has been demolished. On the upper floors, formerly 5 flats had been converted into three bigger units of 80 — 165 m² with different layouts according the found conditions and the users demands.
