Listed Building - Grade II, Within a Conservation Area
Bennington, a Grade II Listed home built in 1925 by Baillie Scott and Arthur Edgar Beresford for the vicar Herbert Dale, is a highly formal, three-storey structure with notable symmetry, except for a single-storey addition to the north. Our proposals introduce a series of quiet, single-storey volumes that sit lower than the principal house, mirroring the natural topography. This massing creates a clear hierarchy, respecting the original structure and the surrounding gardens. A new brick wall conceals accommodation to the rear (north) and leads to a chimney stack that punctuates the view toward the garden. The landscape strategy reintroduces key elements of the original garden plan while accommodating modern living needs.
