Alteration to existing property, Within a Conservation Area
Back to Front House is a refurbishment of a 5-bedroom early Edwardian home near the Sandwich Walled Town Conservation Area. The original layout lacked a defined entrance and connection to the garden, necessitating a complete redesign of the ground and first floors. Though much of the original grandeur was lost in 1960s additions, the house retains elegant Edwardian proportions. The new contemporary space contrasts in both form and material, fostering a sense of détente. A restrained rear addition, framed with vertical Douglas Fir sections, frames views of the Grade I listed St. Clements Church. At night, it resembles a child's dollhouse.
