The new Jethro Centre was to become part of the social and physical regeneration of the southern section of Lurgan which had been neglected over a period of 30 years. It was therefore vital that the building offered a strong visual connection with the local community and should have a “heart” where people entering the building could “feel at home” and easily orientate themselves around a large building, without complicated circulation routes. “Since its opening, the Jethro Centre has seen an average of 10,000 users per month. These users continue to support a variety of projects ranging from, for example, Kidz Patch, a before and after schools programme which has secure facilities for children, through to ‘Palms’ programme (day care facilities for the frail elderly). The Jethro Centre also supports a variety of wider community functions, including conference facilities, multi media events and of course the day to day provision of café Zipporah which provides a vibrant and visible soul to the centre. Both the SPCA and end users are delighted with the new Jethro Centre which provides an excellent platform for vital community services into the 21st Century.” Client | Shankhill Parish Community Assoc.
